MY 'X' HOMETOWN

ENBE Assignment 3 - Individual

This project requires us to recall, study and to visually revisit our hometown to visualise the ambience/environment, built components, social and culture through tangible and intangible components after having the lecture and discussion on the Built Environment. We are then required to created a infographic pamphlet of our hometown in A4 Size after research and compiling information.

We are first to choose our township and study the background of the town. Then, we dive in the town to choose a specific area to elaborate the built components in detail found through tangible and intangible components. After that, we talk aout the places with sentimental values and conclude them all with ideas of improvement for the better future.

Objectives of this project

1. To extend knowledge of the built environment at its basic unit, form and function.
2. To understand the interrelation between built environment and its user

3. To question, analyse and articulate the impact by the built environment

WORK PROGRESS

I start this project by figuring out how my pamphlet style should be like, accordion, parallel or gatefold.

I named my pamphlet's title "My Euphoric Abode" with accordion style.

I then identify my town and narrow down the areas I want to talk about in the infographic pamphlet. They are - Puchong (Location Plan) ; Pusat Bandar Puchong and Bandar Puteri Puchong (Site Plan). I then draw the plans onto my drawing medium with the aid of Google Earth, and then research and write about the history, landmarks and main accessibility of my town as the introduction for the pamphlet.

For the chosen specific areas, I followed the brief requirements to describe the tangible components found in the area such as: zoning, building typology and style, road circulation, transportation, existing infrastructure and facilities, and public space etc. I also have to elaborate the intangible components in the specific area such as the culture, activities, safety and etc.

I then followed by identifying the sentimental part of the area and discuss about the tangible and intangible elements it contains.

I conclude the whole infographic pamphlet with ideas of improvement, or how I envision my town in the future based on related issue/ to justify.

REFLECTION

Through this project, I am able to identify and to describe the elements or components of built environment. Also, to be able to analyse the function of the elements in built environment in man-made setting.

I have learnt about all the details about my town for example, the zoning, components, building typology and style and many more. I was exposed more about my town's history while doing my research which was an eye opener for me. I also learned how to promote my own city by arranging all information in a pamphlet which was quite challenging for me as I am still in the process of learning information hierarchy.

In conclusion, I've learned much about my very own town that I live in and I gained much knowledge about putting relevant informations only in any of my projects to come.
